A photo of the demo held by local
residents on Thursday 25th February. Railtrack cancelled work
on the site for the day and were clearly anxious to avoid confrontation..

The pictures below show
further actions on site recently, and the current state of working at the
quarry. We are still awaiting the Secretary of State's decision on the Article
4 Direction.

Public
Meeting 16th March
This was a well attended meeting at Lake Street Community
Centre. Local councillors Bob Price and Bill Baker attended, as well as
Dr. Evan Harris, the MP who covers the South Hinksey area. Feelings in South
Oxford are still running very high, and there is much resentment at the
high-handed way in which Railtrack have treated us, and their indifference
to the poisoning of the area with noise, dust and fumes. It was suggested
that we might write to our Euro MP to raise the question of ecological and
environmental damage and whether or not EEC legislation is applicable.
It is
very important to write again to Mr. Prescott, especially if you have been
affected directly by recent working on the quarry. Try to give some details
of how noisy and dusty it is, whether the work has gone on at weekends,
and so on. Many of the houses close to the site find that, even with all
windows closed, and with double glazing, noise and vibration from the loading
and unloading makes life intolerable. In the spring and summer months we
will all be more directly affected.
